KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) is once again ready to shoulder the major responsibility of managing the International Media Centre (IMC) and International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit, further strengthening its role in hosting international-level events.

Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said Bernama’s extensive experience in managing media centres for previous international events serves as the foundation for confidence in the national news agency’s ability to carry out its duties excellently.

“Alhamdulillah, once again Bernama has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the IMC by the Foreign Ministry.

“I have full confidence in the Bernama team, as we have had experience handling several IMCs before, and, insya-Allah, we will fulfil this responsibility to the best of our ability and ensure smooth operations,” she said.

She said Bernama, as the IMC coordinator, has also deployed a large team to ensure comprehensive coverage and smooth management throughout the event, in line with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, which is themed Inclusivity and Sustainability.

According to Nur-ul Afida, since the beginning of this year Bernama has been entrusted by various ministries to manage international media centres for several events, including the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Langkawi, the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) to be held later this month.

“This trust reflects Bernama’s capability to continue playing an important role in coordinating international media coverage,” she said.

Earlier, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said 2,854 media personnel from 290 agencies from within and outside the country have registered to cover the event. They comprise 648 Malaysian official media representatives, 327 local media personnel and 1,277 international media representatives.

The 47th ASEAN Summit will be held from Oct 26 to 28, with the participation of top leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states and key dialogue partners, including the United States, China, Japan and India.
