MELAKA, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Melaka branch of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) will continue to strengthen efforts to promote the state's arts and cultural heritage through musical performances that highlight the uniqueness of local arts as a cultural tourism attraction.
Its director, Ezlina Alias said these performances are among the main highlights of the Malam Lestari Seni Budaya, the main event of the Straits of Melaka Arts and Culture Festival and the Festival Sungai Melaka (FSSSM) 2025, which will be held for three days from Oct 24 at Dataran Pengkalan Rama Pantai.
"The FSSSM serves as a platform to strengthen cultural arts and tourism activities (Culture-Based Tourism), aligning with Melaka's status as a UNESCO World Heritage City, while also fostering the spirit of unity and harmony among the multi-ethnic communities in the country.
"The Straits of Melaka for centuries has been a centre of trade, cultural exchange, and a meeting point for various world civilisations, shaping the unique identity of the local Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba Nyonya, Chetti, Portuguese and international communities," she told reporters here.
Commenting further, Ezlina said Malam Lestari Seni Budaya, organised by the Melaka JKKN in collaboration with the Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) features performances combining five musical segments that highlight the history, heritage, and cultural diversity of the Straits of Melaka region.
She also said that among the performers will be Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, Roslan Madun, Evon Song, Zanie Zain, Aien Othman, Zubir Khan and Aishah Retno. There will also be performances by the Melaka Peranakan Chinese Association, the Portuguese community and ASWARA dance faculty students.
