KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Adopted School  programme, initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has benefited 1,300 students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Nilam here.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Zamri Ibrahim said that under the initiative, five project scopes were successfully implemented with an allocation of RM100,000.

He said UMT was entrusted by the Ministry of Finance as the implementing agency to carry out development and advancement programmes for the school and its students until December 2025.

“The first focus area is student education programmes aimed at improving academic performance and motivation, especially for students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations.

“The second focus is on teacher training and development, designed to strengthen their sense of identity and enhance commitment among educators,” he said at the  launch of the UMT-SAM programme at SMK Seri Nilam here today.

Mohd Zamri said the programme had also improved learning facilities for students in the Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI) by introducing a fertigation project to support skills training.

Additionally, significant upgrades were made to the school’s facilities, including the repair of electrical wiring, installation of air conditioners, and the addition of Smart TVs to enhance the learning environment.

“School beautification initiatives were also implemented, including the installation of new signboards, making the school look more welcoming and informative. Alhamdulillah, all projects were successfully completed, with 100 per cent of the work and allocated funds used effectively,” he sai

Besides the five main focus areas, Mohd Zamri said UMT also ran several support activities, including the Service Learning Malaysia–University for Society (SULAM) Project, which involved 27 science-stream students.

UMT lecturers also visited the school to provide motivational talks and share insights into the various courses offered by the university.

“Furthermore, UMT made available its campus facilities, such as buses and auditoriums, to support activities for SMK Seri Nilam’s students and teachers. In addition, UMT contributed second-hand assets in good condition for use by the school,” he said.

In total, the programme, which combined financial and in-kind contributions, exceeded RM100,000 in value.
