Bangladesh Declares Three-day State Mourning For Former PM

DHAKA, Dec 30 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi interim government has declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday to Friday following the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, reported Xinhua.

The government also declared Wednesday a public holiday.

Bangladeshi interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus made the announcements on Tuesday afternoon in a televised address to the nation.

Zia, also chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, passed away due to illness at the age of 80 in the capital Dhaka at around 6.00 am local time on Tuesday, her party said in a social media post.
