Unity Gov't Remains Intact, Focus On Economic Growth, People's Wellbeing - Anwar

PETALING JAYA, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that the Unity Government remained intact and stable, with its main focus now on ensuring sustainable economic growth and the wellbeing of the people.

He said all parties under the Unity Government had pledged to focus on these aspects until the 16th General Election (GE16), despite speculation over the possibility of the revival of Muafakat Nasional (MN).

Anwar described the calls as not yet at a serious stage, and said he had not received any further information on the formation of MN.

“But what is important now is that the Unity Government remains intact and everyone has given their pledge to focus on economic growth and safeguarding the welfare of the people until the next General Election.

“As for people having their aspirations and delusions, or issues of disunity, that is their problem… (we) do not interfere in Bersatu’s problems… disunity is not an issue for the Unity Government,” he told reporters after performing Friday prayers with the local community at Masjid Jumhuriah here.

Previously, there were calls from UMNO and PAS leaders for MN to be revived following recent political developments in Perlis involving Bersatu and PAS.

Earlier, Anwar spent time having lunch with the local community at Masakan Minang Azhar, a stall at Medan Selera, Taman Dato Harun, here.

Anwar arrived at about 12.45 pm and was welcomed by the stall owner Nor Azizah Che Rose and her husband, Azhar Maddin, who have been operating the business for the past 40 years.

He spent about 15 minutes chatting amicably with patrons while enjoying popular Minang dishes, including beef rendang, before joining the congregation for Friday prayers.
