SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The highlight of the Selangor Women’s Conference (SIWANIS) 2025/2026 today raised three main motions during debates - workforce well-being, strengthening the care economy, and providing inclusive education for the people of Selangor, especially for women and persons with disabilities (PWD).
Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) chief executive officer Siti Faridah Abdul Samad said that the three motions were current necessities and would help ensure that the socioeconomic balance in the state remains stable.
She explained that the first motion was a proposal to establish an integrated Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) school specifically for the benefit of children with disabilities, including those with special needs.
“The first motion regarding inclusive education through the integrated KAFA is seen as important to ensure that children with special needs are not left behind and continue to receive education that suits their needs,” she said at the SIWANIS 2025/2026 summit held at the Selangor State Assembly here today.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, Selangor Women’s Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari, and Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San were also present.
Siti Faridah said the second motion raised at the conference was the empowerment of flexible work arrangements towards inclusive improvement and addressing the need to establish more flexible work policies.
“It aims to support women involved in the caregiving sector, so they do not have to leave their jobs due to time constraints and lack of flexibility,” she said.
Meanwhile, the third motion is the strengthening of the care economy infrastructure to support the “sandwich generation” and dual-income families.
“This motion is about strengthening care infrastructure, which is timely as Selangor is heading into the phase of an aging population, and thus requires a more comprehensive ecosystem to support families in caring for the elderly,” she explained.
“The commitment of the delegates to raise these motions reflects the determination of women leaders in ensuring more inclusive, balanced, and resilient social development in the state, taking into account the needs of every layer of society,” she added.
Meanwhile, Anfaal said that the implementation of SIWANIS 2025/2026 reflects the state government's serious commitment to strengthening women’s participation in decision-making processes and public leadership.
He said this initiative is in line with the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2025, as well as the development aspirations based on inclusivity, social justice, and the well-being of the people.
“There are several motions that we (the state government) will take up for further consideration. Some of them are of very high quality. For the motion regarding the Integrated KAFA education, this will be proposed to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
“Regarding the flexible work arrangement motion, a study is already being conducted by the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor), one of the state government’s subsidiaries, and we will expand this to other state-owned companies under the Selangor state government,” he said.
Anfaal also mentioned that last year, the state government held the Selangor International Care Summit, where two aspects out of five resolutions would be emphasized: training and sustainable care models.
“(These resolutions) are not just theoretical; they need to be implemented under the state government’s policies and initiatives,” he said.
Earlier in the conference, Kuan Yen Hong from the S54 Tanjong Sepat Delegation won the Best Delegate Award, while the Group Award was given to Group Five, which presented motions related to Public Health and the Care Economy.
