KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah, today expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family of Syakirah Hanan Mazli, 25, who was killed in a road accident at the JPJ traffic light intersection, Jalan Kemajuan, near here yesterday afternoon.
Her Royal Highness’s condolences were relayed through the vice-chancellor of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Prof Datuk Dr Fadzli Adam.
Fadzli said Sultanah Nur Zahirah, who is also the Chancellor of UniSZA, expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of the university’s outstanding second-semester postgraduate diploma in education student.
“I respectfully convey Her Royal Highness Sultanah Nur Zahirah’s heartfelt condolences and profound sense of sadness to the family of the late Syakirah Hanan Mazli, who passed away on Jan 5, 2026,” he said.
“Her Royal Highness hopes that the family of the late Syakirah Hanan will remain patient and strong during this difficult time, and prays that Allah SWT will place her soul among the people of Jannah,” he said in a statement.
In the incident at 1.55 pm yesterday, Syakirah Hanan was driving a Perodua Viva from UniSZA towards Bukit Kecil here and was making a right turn as the traffic light turned green when her vehicle was struck by a speeding Honda Jazz travelling from the opposite direction.
She was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe injuries.
