SIBU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims housed at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sarawak this morning fell to 611 people from 194 families, compared with 622 people from 194 families yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee said four PPS remain operational, involving the Sibu and Bintulu divisions.

“In Sibu, only one PPS is still operating, namely at the SMK Bukit Assek hall, which is sheltering six victims from one family,” the statement said.

A total of 278 victims from 85 families are still taking shelter at the Dewan Suarah Bintulu PPS, while in Sebauh, the Balai Raya Sebauh PPS is housing 150 victims from 54 families and the Dewan Sri Kemena SMK Sebauh PPS has 177 victims from 54 families.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia reported via its official Public Infobanjir website that river water levels at four stations — Long Teru in Miri; Sungai Sibiu in Bintulu; and Nanga Lemai B and Stapang B in Sibu — remain above the danger level this morning.

Five stations recorded warning levels, namely Muput, Sebauh, Tubau and Sungai Similajau in Bintulu, as well as Sungai Salim B in Sibu.
