16/01/2026 04:26 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) remains the main platform for strengthening the nation’s agrofood ecosystem in a comprehensive manner, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He said MAHA has successfully positioned the agricultural sector as a driver of food sovereignty and economic growth, while showcasing innovation, value chains and investment opportunities at the national and international levels.

“We want MAHA to go international this year, which means participation will be much stronger. Therefore, preparations for its organisation have begun with a pre-launch on Dec 3, 2025, themed ‘Penciptaan Nilai Demi Keterjaminan Makanan’,” he told reporters after delivering the ministry’s New Year 2026 message here today.

MAHA 2026 will be held from Aug 28 to Sept 6 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), targeting four million visitors, 2,000 exhibitors and sales transactions amounting to RM58 million.

In addition to MAHA, Mohamad said the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) 2025 also reflected the strength of the national agricultural ecosystem, having attracted 504,491 visitors and recorded sales of RM15.59 million.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said the ministry is targeting 5,000 AgroMADANI Sales programmes this year to ensure the public has continuous access to essential goods at more affordable prices.

“These sales offer savings of between 10 and 30 per cent compared with market prices. This initiative is not only aimed at easing the cost of living, but also complements efforts to strengthen national food security by ensuring local produce is distributed more efficiently and transparently, and delivered directly to consumers,” he said.

He said the AgroMADANI Sales programme recorded strong performance in 2025, with 3,738 programmes organised, exceeding the target of 3,500. These were held at 126 government complexes, 450 B40 residential areas and 3,162 outlets of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).

“This initiative aims to ensure the supply of quality, affordable food while strengthening the economy of farmers, breeders and fishermen nationwide,” he said.
