ALOR SETAR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, has called for an end to allegations and defamatory claims against the state’s Islamic religious authorities following the rejection of a ceramah application at a mosque.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah, who is also the Kedah State Islamic Religious Council (MAIK) president, said he viewed ceramah containing political elements being held in mosques and suraus with serious concern.

“A letter issued by the Kedah State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) regarding the rejected ceramah recently went viral on social media

“This rejection was made in accordance with a circular that has been issued, and appropriate action has been taken,” he said in a statement today.

His Royal Highness stressed that all forms of religious activities in mosques and surau must be subject to approval and comply with the regulations and guidelines set by the state religious authorities.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah said that all individuals and parties must comply with the regulations, regardless of position or background.

“The ruling is applied fairly, consistently, and equitably to preserve the dignity of mosques and the authority of Islamic religious institutions in Kedah,” he said.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah said a clear separation between places of worship and politics was essential to safeguard community harmony and prevent Islam from being exploited to serve specific interests.

According to him, MAIK will continue to carry out its entrusted duties with wisdom and prudence, in accordance with Islamic law, legislation and the state constitution, in order to safeguard the stability, harmony and unity of the ummah in the state.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah expressed hope that such incidents would not happen again, adding that action would be taken should they recur.
