China And Malaysia Will Ride High In 2026 – Chinese Ambassador

07/02/2026 12:08 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- China and Malaysia will ride high in 2026 and jointly write a glorious chapter in the new journey of next golden 50 years of relations, said Ambassador of China to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.

He said 2025 marks a milestone year in the development of China-Malaysia relations, highlighted by President Xi Jinping’s visit, his second after 12 years.

“During this visit, a joint statement was made showing the two countries’ commitment to building a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, ushering the two countries into a new phase of bilateral relations, the best ever in history,” he said in his speech during the Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Embassy of China in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof attended the event.

Ouyang said the momentum in bilateral ties in 2025 was further reinforced by Premier Li Qiang’s two visits to Malaysia, as well as Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s fourth visit to China since taking office — all of which substantially strengthened China–Malaysia friendly ties in a comprehensive manner.

He added that practical cooperation between the two countries continues to deliver substantive benefits to their people.

Citing China’s official data, Ouyang said bilateral trade between China and Malaysia reached US$191.66 billion in 2025, an impressive achievement against the backdrop of global economic downturn.

He said China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, while major cooperation projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has achieved 91 per cent completion, and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” is undergoing further upgrading.

On people-to-people exchanges, Ouyang said thanks to the implementation of the mutual visa-free policy, people of both countries can visit each other “on a whim”.

In 2025, 4.77 million Chinese tourists visited Malaysia, while 716 flights now operate weekly between China and Malaysia.
