KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- National men’s track cyclist Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom is ready to shoulder the medal-hunting mission in place of his brother Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom at the Asian Cycling Championships (ACC) in the Philippines this March.
He said that for now, he has been named to replace Muhammad Shah in the sprint and keirin events alongside Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang.
Muhammad Ridwan, better known as ‘Boy’, is also targeting to bring home medals in both individual events.
“I am setting a top-five target for the individual events. If the opportunity is good, I want to try to bring back a medal in the individual events.
“Previously I competed a lot in team events, now it’s time to prove myself in the individual events. Even though Shah is not there, I will try to give my best,” he told Bernama today.
For the record, Muhammad Shah will not compete at the ACC Philippines as he has only recently recovered from a knee injury sustained last year.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Ridwan said the national squad will depart for Melbourne, Australia next week as part of preparations for the ACC Philippines.
The national sprint squad will feature Mohd Azizulhasni and Muhammad Ridwan, while the men’s team sprint line-up comprises Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis, Mohamad Akmal Nazimi Jusena and Muhammad Ridwan.
For the women’s squad, the team sprint event will involve Anis Amira Rosidi, Nurul Aliana Syafika Azizan, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri and Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid.
