JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Johor police will step up surveillance at the 47 hotspots (congestion-prone areas) and 38 blackspots (accident-prone areas) they have identified statewide throughout the Ops Selamat 25 campaign in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said a total of 1,801 personnel will be deployed for the operation, including 676 personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).

"The locations that we will focus on include the country's main border routes, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex,” he told a media conference after the launch of the Ops Selamat 25 campaign at the Johor Police Headquarters here today.

The operation, from tomorrow until Feb 20, will focus on six main road violations, including driving on the emergency lane, speeding and overtaking dangerously.

"We also expect a 30 to 40 per cent increase in the number of vehicles entering the city, mainly due to the school and festive holidays,” he said.

He also advised those planning to leave their homes during the CNY period to notify the police via the  Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or contact the nearest police station.
