KANGAR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) collected 1,258.03 tonnes of solid waste following floods that struck Perlis at the end of November.

Its chief executive officer Khalid Mohamed said the clean-up operation, carried out from Nov 29 to Dec 6, covered 116 affected areas and 8,910 premises under SWCorp’s supervision.

A total of 189 personnel, including enforcement staff, were deployed, supported by 65 machines comprising 53 mini armroll lorries and 12 backhoes to expedite clearing works.

“The amount collected is not just a figure, but reflects the dedication, sacrifice and strong commitment of all parties in restoring affected areas promptly for the well-being of the people,” he said at a breaking of fast event at Dewan Bakawali, PDRM Senior Officers’ Mess here.

He added that the success of the operation was driven by close cooperation among government agencies, the private sector and other stakeholders to ensure post-flood waste was managed efficiently and thoroughly.
