KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB) has strengthened its commitment to supporting communities in need through several corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives held in conjunction with Ramadan this year.
The family takaful provider organised three key programmes - the Bubur Lambuk Distribution Programme, GREAT Ramadan Programme and GREAT Sahur Programme, benefiting various groups, including asnaf, orphans and frontliners.
In a statement, the company said 38 GETB volunteers collaborated with Kelab Groovy GETB and Bubur Lambuk Warisan Kampung Baru to prepare and distribute 1,500 packs of bubur lambuk at nine locations across the Klang Valley.
The distribution covered two primary schools - Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Setiawangsa and SK Wangsa Maju Seksyen 1; three welfare homes, namely Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Al Barakh, Pusat Jagaan Kasih Murni and Rumah Titian Kasih; a nursing home, Pusat Jagaan Nurul Jannah, as well as two higher education institutions, UniKL Business School and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The programme was attended by GETB chief executive officer Shahrul Azlan Shahriman and Marketing head Rashida Mior Ahmad Darwish, reflecting the organisation’s continued support for CSR initiatives.
Shahrul Azlan said Ramadan serves as a reminder that the company’s role goes beyond providing financial protection, encompassing efforts to make a meaningful impact on the community.
“Ramadan reminds us that our role extends beyond financial protection; it is also about making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve and those in need.
“At Great Eastern Takaful, we are committed to translating our values into action through initiatives that enhance quality of life with care while strengthening social resilience,” he said.
He added that the programme reflects the collective dedication of the company’s workforce in driving meaningful change, guided by the principles of Purpose, Passion and Performance.
Meanwhile, the GREAT Ramadan Programme 2026 brought together nearly 100 orphans and asnaf recipients from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Al Barakh and Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras in a cheerful setting, including shopping for Aidilfitri essentials and an iftar event.
The programme also involved nearly 40 volunteers from GETB, alongside Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad and Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad.
The iftar event further included about 100 children battling cancer and their caregivers from the Kelab Ibu Bapa dan Sokongan Anak-Anak Kanser (KIDS), providing a platform to uplift and support them.
The series of initiatives concluded with the GREAT Sahur Programme 2026, which saw the distribution of 100 sahur meal packs to frontliners at several locations, including Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Ampang, Kem Desa Tun Hussein Onn and the Wangsa Maju Police Station.
GETB said it believes that every charitable effort can create a positive impact, strengthen community ties and bring hope to those in need.
