MATTA Fair Receives Encouraging Response, High Interest In Domestic Packages

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- The 58th Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair has received encouraging response, with offers of discounts, family packages as visitors show high interest in domestic and regional destinations.

Bernama checks revealed visitors were busy comparing prices and choosing the packages best suited to them as they browsed through the exclusive promotions available throughout the three-day fair that began yesterday.

Pengarah Bukan Eksekutif Jualan Perniagaan-ke-Perniagaan (B2B) Muslim Travel Bug Sdn Bhd Business-to-Business Sales non-executive director Maz Mei Ling said that her company was offering discounts of up to RM300 per person for all packages during MATTA Fair, as well as free travel insurance to customers who booked during the fair.

She also shared that diverting customer payments to a special account was aimed at ensuring the safety of customer funds if anything untoward happened, which would also boost confidence in the company.

Customers are also more cautious because of the current West Asian conflict, preferring local destinations or those in East Asia, but the majority of bookings were still as usual, she said.

“Mostly for now, maybe out of 100 per cent, 85 per cent will fly (to their destinations),” Maz said, adding that packages to Turkiye were still currently available.

Meanwhile, Tourism Johor spokesman Mohd Azhari Abu Bakar said the Johor Pavillion was well received by visitors, in line with Visit Johor Year and Visit Malaysia 2026, adding that various tourism packages were being offered, along with state government efforts encouraging domestic tourism with special packages.

Visitor Nik Izni Fakhira Nik Ismail, 34, said MATTA Fair is still a relevant platform where visitors are able to get deals cheaper than those online.

“Honestly, if we compare online in terms of hotel, it’s cheaper here. I found a hotel’s price was RM689. Which is good,” she said.

Fellow visitor Asyiqin Ilyas, 30, came for the various voucher offers and great selection of choices, as well as a desire to support the local tourism industry through domestic packages.
