Sunway University Fosters Creativity, Lifelong Learning Through Industry Partnerships

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Sunway University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) has entered a new phase through partnerships with seven industry players across the arts, media and creative sectors.

In a statement today, the university said the collaborations were formalised with Sony Malaysia, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP),  Creative Economy Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, Sunway Square Mall, Sunway Lagoon, Euroasia Association of Performing Arts, and Kuala Lumpur City Opera.

“These unique collaborations are shaped by a shared intention to connect education with practice, creating opportunities for students to engage directly with industry through internships, joint projects, workshops and live productions,” it said.

With its move to the expanded campus at Sunway Square, the faculty begins a new chapter in purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities.

FASS now forms part of a dynamic creative hub enriched by shared spaces, collaborative work environments, and the vibrant flow of people.

Meanwhile Dean of FASS, Professor Mayco A. Santaella said the move marks an important step forward for the faculty. 

“It allows us to situate learning within a broader creative context, where students can engage more directly with the work and the people behind it,” he said.

Sunway University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sibrandes Poppema said strong industry partnerships remain central to preparing students.

“By working closely with industry, we ensure that education remains relevant and grounded in practice,” he said. 

The statement said Sunway University, as a mission-driven fifth-generation university, continues to adapt to a changing education landscape where relevance, openness and real-world engagement are increasingly important, in line with the aspirations of the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint 2026–2035.

At Sunway Square, it added, this vision comes to life as FASS fosters meaningful connections between learning and industry, equipping graduates with the confidence and skills to navigate the professional world.

“This marks a significant evolution for Sunway University and the faculty, driven not only by its location but also by active engagement with a wider ecosystem that promotes creativity and lifelong learning,” it said.
