Malaysia Thanks Iran For Allowing Vessels Through Strait of Hormuz - PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has expressed its appreciation for Iran’s decision to allow Malaysian oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The appreciation was conveyed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Malaysia Valiollah Mohammadi, on the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur-Ankara Dialogue 2026 today.

“This step is crucial in ensuring the continuity of energy supply, while helping to ease pressure on the cost of living and support the country’s economic stability,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.

Media reports said that six more Malaysian vessels currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz will be allowed to pass through the waterway in stages.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that one of the seven Malaysian vessels previously stranded in the Strait of Hormuz following regional developments has been granted safe passage and is now continuing its journey to its final destination.

This follows high-level diplomatic engagement between Anwar and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on March 26, which enabled Malaysia to secure permission for the seven vessels to resume their journeys.

The route through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic narrow waterway through which 20 per cent of the world’s crude oil and gas passes, has been affected by ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory and facilities since Feb 28.
