Kelantan Takes Serious View Of Mat Rempit Activities At LTSIP - Exco

KOTA BHARU, April 8 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state government takes a serious view of the issue of unhealthy activities involving a small group of youths in the vicinity of the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP), Pengkalan Chepa, which recently went viral on social media.

State Youth, Sports, NGO and Community Unity Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad said that there should be no compromise on actions that could endanger public safety, and such actions must be addressed firmly through enforcement actions by the authorities.

He said this issue needs to be addressed wisely and focused on long-term solutions, not through labelling or perceptions that do not help in building a future generation.

Zamakhshari said the state government will adopt a comprehensive approach encompassing enforcement aspects, youth development, recreational facility provision, and alternative activities to address the issue.

“We are forging a close relationship with the authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Malaysia Airports Berhad, in enforcement aspects,” he told reporters after the exco meeting at Kompleks Kota Darul Naim here today.

Last Monday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke directed the JPJ to conduct a large-scale enforcement operation at LTSIP.

The media previously reported that the departure hall at the new LTSIP Pengkalan Chepa terminal here, which has been fully operational for less than a month, was turned into a racing circuit by mat rempit.
