Transit Through Hormuz Remains At Standstill Despite Ceasefire

08/04/2026 09:56 PM

ISTANBUL, April 8 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remained at a standstill despite a partial easing of tensions in West Asia after the ceasefire decision, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

Vessel traffic data providers reported that traffic in the strait remained unchanged, while the global tanker tracking website TankerTrackers said: "We're not seeing much happening."

TankerTrackers' satellite-based visuals showed that no tankers had passed through the strait since the beginning of the ceasefire.

Another vessel tracker, MarineTraffic, said there were only two vessels that had passed through the strait so far on Wednesday; a Greek-owned bulk carrier, NJ Earth, and a Liberia-flagged vessel, Daytona Beach.

The strait, through which normally more than 100 ships pass each day, was largely closed by Iran following the war initiated by the US and Israel, and daily traffic had dropped to just a few ships.

Around 20 per cent of global LNG shipments and 20 million barrels of oil are shipped through the strait, as well as commodities important for the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
