KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Konami Digital Entertainment to bring the Malaysia League (M-League) onto the global digital stage through the popular football game eFootball.

MFL chief executive officer Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd said the initiative marks an important step in strengthening the M-League brand while attracting younger audiences to local football.

He described the collaboration as part of a broader “mega approach” aimed at bridging the M-League with Malaysia’s large eFootball community.

“Today marks a step towards a mega approach, a mega bridging effort with the eFootball community in Malaysia, which is very large. MFL is truly honoured, and even before today’s official announcement, there had already been buzz on social media over the past few days about MFL signing with Konami.

“We have also seen encouraging reactions from neighbouring countries, as the M-League is now featured in Konami’s eFootball platform,” he said after the partnership ceremony between Konami and the MFL here today.

Mohd Shazli added that Malaysia is the third country to have its domestic league featured in the game, after Japan and Thailand.

He said that the duration and value of the collaboration, as well as the returns to the clubs, will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, Konami Digital Entertainment general producer Junichi Taya said that Malaysia represents a key market for the company due to its strong football culture and passionate fan base.

“Malaysia has a very strong football culture and passionate fans, which makes it an important market for eFootball. People here are not only interested in real-life football, but also in esports and digital platforms. That is why Konami is very interested in collaborating with Malaysia,” he said.

The collaboration will see elements of the M-League, including clubs, players and local football identity, featured in the game, providing wider international exposure for the domestic league.

In addition, the implementation of a dedicated Malaysian server is expected to provide a smoother and more competitive online gaming experience, in line with the rapid growth of the eFootball community here.

Among those present at the ceremony were MFL president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan, Konami Digital Entertainment senior business marketing manager Hajime Matsumaru and players from several M-League clubs.
