MAWILLA 4 Project In Sarawak At Land Acquisition Stage - Khaled

KUCHING, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (TLDM) Region Four Naval Headquarters (MAWILLA 4) construction project in Muara Tebas here is currently at the land acquisition stage, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said negotiations were ongoing between the ministry and the Sarawak State Secretary to ensure the land acquisition process proceeded smoothly in accordance with procedures.

He said MAWILLA 4 was a strategic project that needed to be expedited.

“The MAWILLA 4 project is now in the process of finalising land matters. We have identified the location and are dealing with the state government so that they can facilitate the land acquisition process.

“Land matters are not simple, but I hope we can resolve them as soon as possible,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Muara Tuang Camp here today.

Mohamed Khaled said the construction of MAWILLA 4 was also part of his ministry’s strategic plan to ensure a balanced deployment of personnel between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.

“That is indeed part of our planning, to ensure that the number of personnel in West Malaysia and East Malaysia is at a balanced ratio. However, we are still working towards that as it depends on various factors.

“(Factors such as) the construction of new camps and the relocation of assets are processes that cannot be implemented immediately and require careful planning,” he said.
