KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Prisons Department is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other security agencies to locate and rearrest a Pakistani detainee who escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison yesterday.
The department said in a statement that the man, who was detained over child sexual offences, escaped from police custody while at the Sungai Buloh Prison compound.
“The incident took place at around 6pm while the man was being transferred to prison after the completion of his court proceedings at the Shah Alam Court.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of detainees and the public at all times and will take strict action against any breach of procedures,” the statement said today.
Earlier, Sungai Buloh district police chief Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor was quoted as saying that the man, last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and black trousers, escaped while in remand custody.
The man was being held on remand for investigation under Sections 377C and 392 of the Penal Code, Section 14(d) and (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call investigating officer Insp C Muhendran at 010-4304383, the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters at 03-61561222, or the nearest police station.
