MOSCOW, April 11 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Chinese app WeChat has banned the use of artificial intelligence, scripts, and other automated tools for publishing, according to the Yicai financial news broadcaster, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
According to a spokesperson for the app, WeChat has always encouraged genuine human creativity and supported creators in using tools to enhance their work.
However, the platform prohibits content created entirely by automated programmes without human intervention.
WeChat updated its operating rules last month, prohibiting users and accounts from using AI, scripts, interfaces or other automated programmes to replace humans in the production and publication of content, the company said.
The new rules define specific violations, including content created or combined by AI that lacks the genuine expression of a real person, as well as content published en masse through scripted programmes.
Accounts suspected of violating these rules may face sanctions ranging from restrictions and content removal to bans.
Tencent Holdings, the owner of WeChat, is not the only company imposing restrictions on AI-generated content.
TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, is also stepping up its crackdown on AI-generated content.
