BARCELONA, April 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is playing a key role in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 humanitarian mission, with its participants filling critical vacancies to ensure the international voyage can be deployed.
Sumud Nusantara chef de mission Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman said that among the more than 40 Malaysian participants, some have taken on roles as captains, crew members, engine specialists and members of medical teams.
"They serve as captains, crew members, technical and engine experts on board the vessels, as well as members of the medical teams, thereby enabling the GSF Mission 2.0 to proceed with full solidarity and commitment,” he told a media conference here today.
Muhammad Nadir said the involvement of Malaysian experts helped fill gaps at the global level, which could not be achieved previously.
He added that the GSF 2.0 is the second phase following the successful delivery of 30 aid containers weighing 274 tonnes through the Rafah border crossing in Egypt previously.
"We are now in phase two, where we are sending our delegations aboard the boards to carry out what is referred to as direct action throughout the journey to mobilise the masses and the international community to act,” he said.
He said the highlight of the Sumud Nusantara effort will be the legal action by Malaysian lawyers to file a case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the abduction of mission participants in previous years.
The flotilla, scheduled to depart from here today, will bring an international coalition determined to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza and to respond to the humanitarian and political crises faced by Palestinians.
GSF 2.0 involves over 80 vessels and 1,000 participants from around the world, combining maritime action with coordinated global mobilisation on land, as well as connecting solidarity efforts, legal advocacy and grassroots campaigns across multiple countries.
