ALOR GAJAH, April 12 (Bernama) -- The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) will submit immediate and medium-term measures to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) and the Cabinet to address risks facing the agricultural sector following the West Asia crisis.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposals would also take into account feedback from industry players to ensure the country’s preparedness in dealing with the current situation.
“Insya-Allah, announcements on this matter will be made by KPKM,” he told reporters after attending the Aidilfitri open house hosted by Melaka Chief Minister and State UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh in Masjid Tanah here today.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid urged the opposition to put forward constructive proposals to help the government address challenges arising from geopolitical instability.
“This is a shared problem… the opposition should offer sound ideas.
“If they have the expertise, this is the best time for us to find solutions to safeguard the country, even if they are in the opposition,” he said.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu was reported as saying the government is studying several proposals to assist padi farmers affected by rising input costs following the surge in global fuel prices.
In a Facebook post, he said proposals under consideration include the use of fleet cards for agricultural machinery as well as increased incentives for ploughing and harvesting.
