KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is closely monitoring food and beverage prices at cafeterias in public higher education institutions (IPTA) following concerns over rising costs.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, said the matter was also raised during a recent meeting with representatives of student councils (MPP).

“At public universities, monitoring is ongoing, including through observations by vice-chancellors.

“For private universities, we have advised them to consider current conditions and avoid raising prices,” he said after attending the Celik MADANI Achievement and Direction Programme at Menara Merdeka 118 here today.

Also present were Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) chairman Raja Tan Sri Datuk Seri Arshad Raja Tun Uda and Higher Education director-general Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman.

Zambry added that the government will soon introduce the Menu Kasih Siswa initiative to assist underprivileged students in IPTAs.

Meanwhile, the Celik Kewangan Belia MADANI Programme (Celik MADANI), implemented by Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB), recorded more than 200,000 student participants from higher education institutions last year.

The programme aims to reach one million students by 2030 as part of efforts to strengthen financial literacy and develop a resilient generation of young investors.

“So far, participation has reached 200,000, and I am confident the target of one million students by 2030 will be achieved,” he said.
