BUDAPEST, April 15 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Peter Magyar, the leader of Hungary’s election-winning Tisza party, said on Wednesday that he had held phone talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and several European leaders to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Yesterday, I spoke by phone with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We agreed to continue cooperation between our countries in the areas of energy, security policy, trade, and culture," Magyar wrote on X.
Magyar added that he had accepted an invitation from Erdogan to visit Ankara and, in turn, invited the Turkish leader to Budapest.
Magyar also held talks with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and Bavarian Minister-President Markus Soder.
"Today, I will also hold several important international consultations," the politician added.
Hungary held parliamentary elections on April 12. According to preliminary results from the election commission, with 98.9 per cent of votes counted, the Tisza party led by Magyar is significantly ahead of the ruling Fidesz party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Tisza is projected to win 136 out of 199 seats, securing a constitutional majority, while Fidesz is expected to take 57 seats.
Final results, including overseas ballots, are expected to be confirmed by April 18.
