Selangor To Unveil Resilience Package To Help People Navigate Energy Crisis - MB

SHAH ALAM, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Selangor State Government will launch the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, which outlines immediate and medium-term measures aimed at assisting the public and industries in navigating the global energy crisis.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said RM130.42 million has been allocated for the first phase of the package, which will commence in June, following the state government’s annual budget review and the implementation of several cost-saving measures.

He said the package aims to strengthen food security, reduce the cost of living, curb excessive inflation, encourage the use of public transport and provide targeted assistance to the most affected groups.

“This situation (conflict in West Asia) indicates that these challenges are unlikely to subside in the short term, and even if the conflict eases, it will take at least a year for crude oil, gas, fertiliser, sulphur and helium production to return to pre-war production levels.

“That’s why, in Selangor, we cannot take a wait-and-see approach but must be prepared to face this situation over a prolonged period,” he said at a special press conference on the Selangor State Government’s preparedness to face the West Asia crisis at Wisma Dewan Negeri Selangor today.

Under the package, Amirudin said RM5 million would be set aside for the Jelajah Ehsan Rahmah (JER) 2026, to be conducted by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) once a month in each state constituency statewide.

He said the allocation, which was in addition to an existing RM5 million, would help ease cost-of-living pressures for low-income households and benefit up to 168,000 households.

To increase food supply stocks, Amirudin said the state government would allocate RM50 million for the Gudang Makanan Selangor (GMS) initiative, comprising RM25 million from state financial resources and RM25 million from PKPS savings.

“This is to make sure that in the event of any shortage of food imports, Selangor can activate the GMS, which holds stocks of essentials such as rice and protein, so that prices of basic goods do not rise sharply,” he said.

Amirudin said the state government would also introduce a RM100 Kita Selangor Voucher per month for six months to 50,000 Selangor residents, with a total allocation of RM30 million, to help mitigate the impact of inflation on the people.

He said the measure was implemented to ensure that no citizen would fall into hardcore poverty if they lost their job or source of income this year.

As a measure to further encourage the use of public transport, Amirudin said RM30 per month would be given to 50,000 Selangor residents for six months to help reduce the cost of using Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) vans, buses or trains until the end of this year, involving an allocation of RM5.4 million.
