SEGAMAT, April 19 (Bernama) -- Komuniti MADANI will continue to be strengthened as a government information delivery agent to ensure the public receives accurate information and to counter the spread of fake news.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said several improvements will be implemented to the Komuniti MADANI initiative, with emphasis on information delivery and training.
“It is hoped that Komuniti MADANI can become a strong and effective team in delivering information, countering misinformation, listening to public concerns, and ensuring the government is more responsive in addressing current issues,” he told reporters after presenting appointment letters to 150 Komuniti MADANI leaders in Johor for the 2026/2027 term.
He said the community members will act as key communicators or information delivery agents on behalf of the federal government, particularly in explaining government policies and correcting public perceptions on confusing issues.
He also encouraged Komuniti MADANI to collaborate with the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The collaboration will be carried out through various community programmes, including training in the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the development of communication narratives, as well as the creation of outreach materials using applications such as Canva and graphic design training, he said.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Segamat Cemerlang Komuniti MADANI head V Shamala, 42, said one of her priorities is to work with the Department of Information Malaysia to provide briefings on current issues to the community.
She said these information-sharing sessions are important as there are currently many unreliable sources of news being circulated, and therefore, the public needs to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it.
“At the same time, Komuniti MADANI also serves as a more effective platform in curbing the spread of false news, as information can be channelled directly to the community,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nur Hakimah Nordin, 29, who was appointed head of Kampung Baru Jementah Komuniti MADANI, said one of her plans is to strengthen ties between government agencies and the local community.
She said the effort includes providing explanations on the roles of each government agency as well as the services offered so that the public can better understand their functions and responsibilities.
According to Nur Hakimah, they are also planning community programmes involving various parties, including Members of Parliament, state assembly members, village heads and community leaders, such as fun runs and other activities involving all segments of society.
