PUTRAJAYA, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) will continues to prioritise efforts to develop quality leaders among youths to strengthen the nation’s next generation, its minister, Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said.

His ministry is intensifying various strategic initiatives that provide early exposure to youths in leadership, governance and nation-building, including Felo Perdana, a key programme offering youth the opportunity to understand the country’s administrative processes and gain a more comprehensive grasp of the national system, he added.

The Rakan Muda programme is also being strengthened as a platform for youth character and identity development, while also planning broader cross-ministerial initiatives aligned with current needs.

“These efforts are crucial to ensure that we not only produce leaders, but leaders who are truly prepared, capable and possess integrity,” he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama led by Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj at his office here recently.

He pointed out that the youth leadership development agenda is also in line with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s aspirations, in that more young people are ready to assume leadership roles at various levels.

Producing more quality leaders would bring significant added value to the country, not only in administration but across various professional sectors, he explained.

“The best leaders come from individuals who excel in their respective fields. What matters is that we want quality youths with strong character, identity and a high sense of nationhood,” Mohammed Taufiq said.

He also shared that Institut Penyelidikan Pembangunan Belia Malaysia (IYRES) supports his ministry by conducting comprehensive studies on each initiative implemented, adding that the findings enabled them to design more targeted programmes based on age groups and current youth needs.

“This data-driven approach is essential to ensure that every programme implemented truly delivers impact,” he said.

He was also happy to reveal that cross-ministerial collaboration was being strengthened, involving the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry and the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry to expand programme reach.

Through such collaboration, the Rakan Muda programme has been extended to schools, alongside the establishment of Rakan Muda Clubs in higher education institutions and the Rakan Niaga initiative targeting youths in the workforce, he added.
