Namibia's Minister Of International Relations And Trade Begins Working Visit To Malaysia Today

PUTRAJAYA, April 20 (Bernama) -- Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi will undertake a two-day working visit to Malaysia beginning Monday, according to a statement from Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry. 

The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said this marks her first visit to Malaysia since assuming office in March 2025. She will be accompanied by a seven-member delegation.

“Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi is scheduled to hold a discussion with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who will be hosting a luncheon in her honour.

The two ministers are expected to take stock of progress on bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as energy cooperation, trade and the economy, education, health, and capacity building,” the statement read.

According to Wisma Putra, Malaysia and Namibia will also exchange views on international issues of mutual interest, including developments in the West Asia.

During the working visit, the minister is also scheduled to meet other ministers and representatives of relevant agencies, the statement added. 

According to the Foreign Ministry, Malaysia and Namibia established diplomatic relations in 1990 and have since maintained warm and cordial relations through cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral platforms.

The statement said, the working visit by Ashipala-Musavyi is expected to further strengthen the longstanding and growing partnership between Malaysia and Namibia.

In 2025, Malaysia’s total trade with the Namibia reached RM394 million (US$92.4 million), with Malaysia’s exports to Namibia valued at RM30.6 million (US$7.2 million) and imports at RM363.4 million (US$85.3 million), it added.
