Perak To Establish Two Special Committees To Address Global Supply Crisis

21/04/2026 05:58 PM

IPOH, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Perak state government will establish two special committees at the state level to implement a crisis impact mitigation plan in addressing the global supply crisis, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Saarani said the two committees are the Special Committee on Crisis Impact Mitigation and the Crisis Impact Monitoring Committee, as proposed during a coordination meeting chaired by State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim recently.

“The specific roles of both committees will be detailed in the State Executive Council meeting tomorrow, followed by the phased implementation of mitigation and intervention measures.

“However, the measures to be refined will take into account intervention actions currently being and to be implemented at the federal level to avoid any duplication or leakage of resources, while ensuring that every effort complements and strengthens existing approaches,” he said.

He was speaking when winding up the debate on the Royal Address at the Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Saarani said the initial phase of mitigation measures will focus on the most basic priority, which is to ensure that the people’s food needs remain secure, particularly for those most affected by the current cost of living pressures.

He said subsequent phases will also emphasise the state government’s commitment to implementing mitigation measures for strategic sectors, while ensuring that groups such as farmers and small entrepreneurs are empowered should the energy crisis worsen.

According to Saarani, the state government’s efforts are also focused on maintaining stable food supplies, assisting affected sectors such as transportation, agriculture and fisheries, and strengthening the state’s economic resilience in facing global uncertainties.

“To ensure that this mitigation plan can be implemented effectively, the state government will realign expenditure for 2026 by prioritising matters that directly address the people’s needs in the current situation.

“Less critical allocations will be reviewed so that available resources can be utilised more optimally to support the implementation of these intervention measures,” he said.

At the same time, he said that if necessary, the state government would not hesitate to consider the implementation of a supplementary budget to strengthen mitigation efforts, particularly in safeguarding public welfare, supporting affected sectors and ensuring the continuity of the state’s economic growth.
