KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s live events industry contributed nearly RM1.72 billion to the national economy last year after hosting more than 450 concerts nationwide, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said the broader cultural and creative industry currently accounted for about 6.8 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), valued at more than RM130 billion.

"This year, let us aim even higher. Initiatives such as the Concert and Event in Malaysia Incentive (CEMI) were introduced to attract international artistes, draw tourists and grow the wider industry ecosystem," he said in a Facebook post today.

Fahmi said the Communications Ministry would submit a proposal to the Cabinet for additional assistance to event organisers following the extension of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 activities until the end of 2027.

He said the government remained confident in the talent and capabilities of Malaysian youths building careers in the sector.

“The creative economy is no longer on the fringes. It is a crucial driver of Malaysia’s future,” he said.
