Malaysian Rights Group Joins Global Legal Push Against Israeli Officials

23/04/2026 03:03 AM

BRUSSELS, April 22 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian human rights organisation has joined an international legal coalition to pursue accountability over alleged violations of international law involving Israeli officials.

Centre for Human Rights Research & Advocacy (CENTHRA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Waves of Freedom France, Centre for Human Rights Research & Advocacy, and Global Coalition to End the Occupation of Palestine on the matter during the Global Sumud Parliamentary Congress here today.

The MoU establishes a framework for international legal cooperation aimed at prosecuting serious crimes under international law.

The initiative coincides with the filing of a legal complaint in France targeting several Israeli officials over their alleged roles in legislation introducing the death penalty against Palestinian detainees.

CENTHRA founder and chairman Azril Mohd Amin said the organisation’s participation in the congress focused on strengthening legal frameworks and international cooperation.

“Both coalitions are highly committed in the legal aspect and, in fact, in recent weeks they have filed several criminal actions against Israeli individuals and officials,” he said.

He added that the efforts in Brussels had also opened up opportunities to strengthen international networks among lawyers and activists.

“Hopefully, with a stronger network, our efforts to bring justice on behalf of the Palestinian people to prosecute the Israelis will become more successful and more robust,” he added.

Azril also said that CENTHRA would begin taking other forms of action to prosecute crimes committed by Israel, despite facing constraints in directly implementing the principle of universal jurisdiction.

“God willing, although we are not yet able to apply or implement the principle of universal jurisdiction directly in Malaysia due to certain constraints, Malaysia will begin by taking action to seek justice for Malaysian participants in the Global Sumud Flotilla who were detained and abducted in international waters,” he said.
