PUTRAJAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- A memorandum on the proposal to bring back three Malaysian elephants named Dara, Amoi and Kelat, which are currently in Japan will be submitted to the management of Zoo Taiping and Night Safari (ZTNS) for review and further consideration.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) said the memorandum, which it received from a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Secretariat Bahana Kesetiaan Negara, would be dealt with by the zoo management as the matter is part of an official cooperation between ZTNS and Tennoji Zoo Osaka.
“The memorandum will be forwarded to the President of the Taiping Municipal Council Mohamed Akmal Dahalan as well as the ZTNS management, as the matter is under ZTNS’ jurisdiction,” the ministry said in a statement today.
Media previously reported that a group of activists and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had urged the government to bring back the three elephants sent to Tennoji Zoo Osaka, following claims that the animals were suffering and unsuitable for the environment there.
