KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- Nearly 500 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel and their family members took part in a special Hindu prayer ceremony held in conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebration at the Sri Maha Muniswarar Temple tonight.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M. Kumar said the programme reflected PDRM’s commitment to fostering harmony while embracing religious and cultural diversity within the organisation.

“What makes Malaysia unique is our diversity. Despite coming from different backgrounds, the level of unity among Malaysians remains strong.

“What keeps us together is tolerance and mutual understanding. Although Islam is the official religion, the government has always upheld the right of every community to practise its own culture, beliefs and religion,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

Now in its fifth year, the event was attended by Hindu officers and personnel from Bukit Aman as well as various contingents across the Klang Valley.

Beyond its religious significance, Kumar said the ceremony also served as a platform to honour the contributions, dedication and sacrifices of Hindu members throughout their service in the police force.

As part of the event, recognition was given to 15 children of police officers and personnel for outstanding achievements in academics, including the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), as well as accomplishments at the university level and in sports.

Kumar said PDRM personnel from other faiths also hold religious observances according to their respective beliefs, reflecting the force’s continued commitment to unity and inclusivity within the nation’s security services.
