ARAU, May 5 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Perlis, has launched an Internet Safety Campaign (KIS) to promote safe and ethical internet use among students.
UniMAP Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Ir Dr Rizalafande Che Ismail said the campaign was held at the university today in conjunction with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026 (WTISD 2026).
He said the second WTISD event hosted by UniMAP focused on current issues surrounding internet use in Malaysia as well as the importance of practising digital ethics in daily life.
“The one-day programme is jointly organised with MCMC Perlis and industry partners such as Media Lab, the Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society (MARTS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malaysia.
“It brings together various groups including UniMAP students, students from Arau and Kangar Vocational Colleges, as well as industry players to share the latest technological developments and current issues related to telecommunications,” he told reporters after officiating the event here today.
Rizalafande said awareness of telecommunications issues and ethical internet use must continue to be strengthened, especially in addressing increasingly complex technological misuse.
He added that UniMAP also showcased various technological innovations developed through faculty research, particularly in engineering and electronic technology.
“Among those highlighted is antenna technology development, which has received government grants exceeding RM1 million for further expansion, not only for university use but also for the benefit of the community and uniformed bodies,” he said.
