KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (KHM) has been named the recipient of the Dynamic Sports Association Award at the Sports Writers Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS 2025 awards ceremony, scheduled to take place here next Wednesday.
In a statement today, SAM announced that KHM received this recognition for its consistently strong performance on the international stage and its efforts in strengthening local hockey development.
Throughout the past year, the national men's hockey squad secured third place in the Asia Cup and a gold medal at the SEA Games in Thailand.
Additionally, the men's five-a-side hockey squad also contributed a gold medal at the same games, while the national junior men's squad brought home a bronze medal from the Under-18 Asia Cup in China.
At the same time, young cyclist Sawda Hasbullah was chosen as the Best Young Athlete after creating a sensation by winning two gold medals at the Asian Cycling Championships (ACC) last February.
The Melaka-born athlete won gold in the junior women's 1-kilometer (km) time trial, setting an Asian junior record that was also recognised as a world record, before adding another gold in the women's sprint event.
SAM Vice President and Chairman of the SAM-100PLUS 2025 Awards Organising Committee, Mohd Hazreen Nor Mubarak, said that KHM’s excellent management and achievements were key factors in their selection.
Regarding Sawda, he added: "At such a young age, Sawda has a long time ahead to continue shining and restoring Malaysia’s glory in women’s cycling."
In addition to the Best Young Athlete and Dynamic Sports Association awards, the ceremony will also present awards for: Best Athlete; Best Para Athlete, Special Awards
The event will also celebrate sports journalists, who are competing for total cash prizes exceeding RM65,000.
