KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- More than 4,000 individuals have been fined RM2,000 each for littering and ordered to perform up to 12 hours of community service, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said.
He said the compounds, issued by the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), reflect the government's uncompromising stance on public hygiene.
"SWCorp is going all out. We have issued compounds to more than 4,000 litterbugs,” he said at a preview of the ASEAN Real Estate Conference (AREC) and the 25th International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) 2026 here today.
"Each of them are also required to sweep roads, clean drains and carry out other cleaning work for up to 12 hours as part of their community service," he added.
Nga said the government would continue to enforce cleanliness laws strictly and would not compromise on matters involving public hygiene.
ARCHIDEX 2026 and AREC 2026 will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from July 29 to Aug 1.
He said the events will serve as a global platform for policymakers and industry leaders to exchange ideas and solutions to address global challenges and adapt them for implementation at the local level.
