KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today expressed appreciation to educators nationwide in conjunction with Teachers' Day 2026, describing teachers as the heartbeat of the nation and key to shaping future generations.
In a Facebook post, he said that behind every successful individual, whether a doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, leader or other accomplished person, is a teacher who patiently guided and shaped their character.
"A teacher's name may not always be mentioned, but their contributions remain deeply etched in the lives of their students.
"In their firmness, there is compassion; in their fatigue, there is responsibility; and in every lesson they impart, there is a great hope to see the nation's children succeed," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said the theme of Teachers' Day 2026, "Guru Bitara Nadi Negara" (Exemplary Teachers, Heartbeat of the Nation), reflects appreciation for the sacrifices and sincerity of educators in shaping the country's future generations.
"Teachers are the pulse that drives the power of knowledge and shapes the future of the nation. Without teachers, there would be no generation equipped with knowledge, values and the ability to lead the country towards a better future," he said.
Meanwhile, Ipoh, Perak, is hosting the 55th National Teachers' Day celebration, which began today and will run for two days.
Meanwhile, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan expressed appreciation to educators nationwide for their service, sacrifices and dedication in educating and shaping the nation's future generations in conjunction with Teachers' Day 2026.
In a Facebook post in conjunction with tomorrow's Teachers' Day celebration, he said this year's theme, Guru Bitara Nadi Negara, aptly reflects the important role of teachers as a pillar of the nation's strength.
"Teachers not only impart knowledge in the classroom, but also serve as mentors, character builders and a source of inspiration for every child to achieve success," he said.
Ramanan said that behind every successful individual is a teacher who had educated, guided and encouraged them tirelessly.
"I deeply appreciate the commitment and dedication of teachers who continue to serve with sincerity despite the many challenges in an ever-evolving education landscape.
"Indeed, the contributions and sacrifices of teachers cannot be repaid with words. However, all Malaysians undoubtedly appreciate the efforts and service they have rendered for the future of our children and the progress of the nation," he said.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang also expressed his appreciation to all educators, especially teachers and assistant teachers at Taska and Tabika Perpaduan under the ministry.
In a Facebook post, he said this year's celebration theme, "Guru Bitara, Nadi Negara" is very fitting in recognising the great role of educators as initiators of knowledge, builders of character and movers of the future of the nation.
He said in the context of Malaysia's plural society, the role of teachers at Taska and Tabika Perpaduan is very significant because they are among the earliest individuals to introduce the meaning of togetherness, cultural diversity and harmony to children.
"I would like to record my highest appreciation to all teachers and assistant teachers who are always committed, patient and sincere in educating the nation's children tirelessly," said Aaron who also wished all educators in the country a Happy Teachers' Day.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said today's national Teachers' Day Awards Ceremony is not just about celebrating achievements, but also recognising the excellence and contributions of educators who are the heart of shaping the country's future generation.
She said the ceremony recognised the achievements of teachers in 31 categories including STEM, technology and digital, special education, sports, leadership and volunteerism.
"They have achieved various areas of excellence and made meaningful contributions to the national education landscape," she said in a Facebook post today.
Fadhlina said an excellent teacher is not only measured by the academic achievements of students, but also the ability to shape people who are civil with high moral, resilient and capable of contributing to society.
Citing the excellence of Dr Velerie Wheelervon Primus, it shows the true meaning of education that humanises people through her struggle in inclusive education, the emotional wellbeing of students and the development of rural communities, she added.
“Everything is being done for the sake of a more inclusive education for Malaysian children. Every teacher is a hero on the front lines of national education. Every effort they make brings great meaning to the community and the country,” she said.
