BATU PAHAT, May 16 (Bernama) -- Although Mother’s Day has just passed, a student did not miss the opportunity to show his love for his beloved mother by giving her a special gift of the ‘Set Kombo Kasih’ sold through the Jualan Kasih Johor (JKJ).
Muhammad Aqil Rida Mohd Akmar, 19, a medical student at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, said the price of RM15 for a set of basic necessities was very worthwhile, making it affordable for all walks of life, including students.
The combo set, which comprises a chicken, a two-litre bottle of cooking oil and a tray of 30 eggs, he said, could cost almost RM40 in the market.
"My original intention was just to look at the items being sold, but when I saw the price of the combo set, which was much cheaper than the market price, I was immediately tempted to buy it as a Mother's Day gift. My mother is a keen cook, so I bought two sets straight away.
"Although Mother's Day was a few days ago (May 10), I am sure my mother will be happy and will cook delicious dishes for our family," he said when met by Bernama at the JKJ programme for the Sri Medan constituency at the Dewan Kampung Parit Warijo here yesterday.
Muhammad Aqil, the youngest of seven siblings, who hails from the village also expressed his appreciation to the Johor state government for the initiative which helped ease the people’s burden.
For a trader, Lim Loo Yan, 50, the continuation of the JKJ programme is proof of the state government's concern in helping the people so that they are not burdened with the higher cost of living, even though it is not during the festive season.
"With these reasonable prices, we see that the state government is sharing its sustenance and revenue with the people,” she said.
Government pensioner, Nordin Antah, 61, also agreed and described the initiative as the best platform to appreciate the 'Bangsa Johor' by ensuring that the people are not burdened by the increase in the price of essential goods.
"I recommend that this JKJ be continued, especially during the festive season to eliminate the activities of 'middlemen' who often take advantage.
"Through management by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), food supplies are not only fresher, but prices remain stable and affordable," said Nordin.
The Johor state government is striving to help the people in addressing the cost of living issue through the JKJ initiative, with a total allocation of RM72.12 million for the period 2023 to 2026.
To date, JKJ has been implemented in more than 1,700 locations throughout Johor and has benefitted more than 6.59 million residents of the state.
For May and June, more than 750,000 ‘Set Kombo Kasih’ will be provided to the people of Johor, including about 420,000 sets for this month alone.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi recently announced an additional allocation of RM30 million to expand the implementation of JKJ, bringing the total allocation for 2026 to RM45.4 million.
