LABUAN, May 20 (Bernama) -- Tabung Kasih@HAWANA continues to play a proactive role in safeguarding the welfare of media practitioners in need, this time assisting Labuan-based Asia Times journalist Kong Jeng Li in obtaining a new prosthetic leg.
Kong, 38, who has used a prosthetic leg since the age of eight, has been saving money to obtain a new prosthetic fitted with a flexible foot, which costs more than RM15,000.
His current prosthetic is made of wood-based material, which is not waterproof and is easily damaged in wet conditions.
The contribution is expected to ease Kong’s financial burden and help him obtain a more durable and comfortable prosthetic, which is essential for his mobility and daily routine, as well as his work in the media industry.
“I sincerely thank Bernama and Tabung Kasih@HAWANA for this contribution…this assistance means a lot to me as it will help reduce the financial burden in getting a new prosthetic leg.
“With the new prosthetic, I hope to move more comfortably and continue carrying out my duties as a journalist,” Kong said.
Kong was among the recipients of the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA contribution, an initiative by the Communications Ministry, implemented through the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), to assist journalists and media practitioners in need.
The assistance also reflects Tabung Kasih@HAWANA’s continued commitment to ensuring that media practitioners, whether active or retired, are supported when facing health or financial challenges.
The contribution was presented by Bernama Labuan Bureau Editorial Executive Jailani Hasan ahead of National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026, scheduled to be held in Penang next month.
Since its launch at HAWANA 2023, Tabung Kasih@HAWANA has benefited 758 media practitioners nationwide, serving as an important welfare platform for the media fraternity and providing support to those facing illness, disability, loss of income, or other financial difficulties.
