JASIN, May 23 (Bernama) -- Artificial intelligence (AI) and smart farming technology will be among the key highlights of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition 2026 (MAHA 2026), scheduled to take place from Aug 28 to Sept 6.

MAHA 2026 secretariat head Datuk Dr Mohd Haniff Hassan said the biennial event will focus on modern agricultural technology and innovation to attract more youths to the agro-food sector.

“This edition aims to encourage greater youth participation in agriculture while introducing AI and the latest farming technologies.

"Among the technologies to be featured are AI applications in planting, seed production, fertilisation and smart farm management to improve productivity and efficiency,” he told a press conference here today.

Earlier, he attended the launch of the Road to MAHA 2026 Southern Zone programme, officiated by political secretary to the Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Yuhaizad Abdullah.

Mohd Haniff said MAHA 2026, to be held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), is expected to generate trade memorandum of understanding (MoU) values of up to RM8 billion.

The event is targeting four million visitors, while potential business matching and commercial transactions are projected to reach RM58 million.

About 2,000 exhibitors, including participants from Canada and Hungary, are expected to take part, showcasing new technologies and downstream agricultural products.

He said the international participation would create business matching opportunities and help promote local downstream products to the global market.

On the Road to MAHA 2026 Southern Zone programme, Mohd Haniff said it involves 30 to 35 agro-based entrepreneurs under KPKM departments and agencies, as well as eight entrepreneurs from the Agro MADANI Sales programme.

The programme also features 11 exhibitions by government departments and agencies, with attendance expected to reach between 5,000 and 7,000 visitors from Melaka and northern Johor.

Among the attractions are pineapple-based innovations, including the production of paper and thread from pineapples, as well as demonstrations on fertiliser and biorepellent production and campaigns promoting local fruits.
