Best Radio Commentator Category Returns For Anugerah Seri Angkasa 2026

25/05/2026 05:17 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Anugerah Seri Angkasa (ASA) 2026 will reinstate the Best Radio Commentator category, last contested in 2022, following requests from broadcasters and a review by the committee panel.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said several other changes will also be introduced, including for new media, with the Best Series Drama category to be abolished and merged into a revamped category, Best Drama, Series and Micro Drama.

“The Best Video Content category has also been renamed Best Short Video,” she said in her speech at the launch of nominations for the 37th ASA 2026 here today.

She said nominations for ASA 2026 will be open from June 4 to June 22, with a total of 60 categories, comprising 40 television categories, 17 radio categories, and three new media categories, as well as two special awards: the Anugerah Khas Juri and the Anugerah Tokoh Seri Angkasa.

All nominations must be submitted through licensed broadcasting organisations, and entries must have been first aired on a television station or new media platform between Jan 1, 2024, and Dec 31, 2025.

“Nominations must be submitted by representatives of broadcasting organisations through the Anugerah Seri Angkasa nomination system, which will open on June 4, 2026. I encourage all broadcasters to submit their entries so that due recognition can be given to those who are deserving.

“I sincerely hope this year’s ASA will give a renewed boost to all industry players to continue producing high-quality content that meets international standards,” she said.

To ensure a smooth nomination process, Teo said the Communications Ministry will also provide facilities for submissions via the ASA 2026 system at Computer Lab A, Level 19, Menara Komunikasi, throughout the nomination period, adding that government and private broadcasters are invited to submit their nominations online via the website www.anugerahseriangkasa.gov.my.

Teo said this year’s ASA carries the theme “Segalanya Bermula Di Sini”, featuring a Broadway-style musical concept that highlights the evolution of Malaysia’s broadcasting industry in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

Introduced in 1972, she said the awards aim to recognise the contributions and efforts of industry players, including production crews, producers, designers, radio announcers, programme hosts and technical teams who have helped drive the success of the country’s creative industry.

She said Malaysia is targeting to raise the contribution of the local creative industry to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to between seven and 10 per cent this year.

“As of April 2026, through the continued commitment of the Communications Ministry and its agencies, the creative industry has contributed 6.8 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” she said.
