PADANG RENGAS May 30 (Bernama) -- The Padang Rengas MADANI Youth and Sports Carnival, taking place from May 29 to June 1, is expected to draw an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 visitors, offering a host of engaging activities designed to benefit young people.
Political secretary to the Minister of Finance, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, said the carnival was organised to bring together young people, especially those in rural areas, while giving them wider exposure to government services, assistance and initiatives.
He said the programme was also held to ensure that youths are not left behind in the national development agenda, while also providing a platform for them to voice their views and build networks with peers and various government agencies.
“We want to bring young people together, while introducing them to the various opportunities (initiatives) provided by the government to support their lives and careers.
“It is hoped that the activities organised, including e-sports and various recreational programmes, will help to strengthen unity, harmony and good relations among youths in Padang Rengas and surrounding areas,” he told reporters at the event held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Perak here today.
Muhammad Kamil said the programme also involved several government agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the National Registration Department and the Youth and Sports Department.
He said the response to the programme has been very encouraging, with participation not only from local residents but also from youths in nearby areas such as Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Bukit Gantang and Sungai Siput.
Muhammad Kamil said the government remained committed to strengthening the youth development agenda through various programmes focusing on talent, skills, leadership and entrepreneurship development, enabling young people to play a greater role in society and national development.
“We hope that programmes like this can help encourage young people to become more active in social and community activities, as well as various community development initiatives.
The carnival was jointly organised by the Padang Rengas People’s Community Centre, Pertubuhan Generasi Penggerak Kebangsaan, Rasa Fusion Food Fest, and the Persatuan Usahawan Inovatif & Kreatif.
