KANGAR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has called for intensified efforts in managing and conserving the forests along the Nakawan Range, describing the area as not only a unique forest landscape but also a valuable state treasure and national asset that must be preserved for future generations.

His Royal Highness urged all stakeholders to play their respective roles in ensuring that conservation initiatives achieve their intended objectives and continue to protect the area's rich natural heritage.

“On this occasion, I also call upon everyone, especially the people of Perlis, to actively participate in forest conservation activities. These efforts must be undertaken collectively by all levels of society, regardless of background, status or age,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Nakawan Rainforest Festival, held in conjunction with the state-level International Forest Day celebration at the Bukit Ayer Eco-Forest Park, Sungai Batu Pahat Ecotourism Complex, near here today.

Also in attendance was the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.

The Raja of Perlis expressed confidence that the Forestry Department would continue to excel in leading efforts to preserve and conserve the state's forest resources and natural heritage in line with its vision of becoming a leading authority in sustainable tropical forest management.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the organisation of the Nakawan Rainforest Festival was highly significant in supporting the Perlis government's efforts to conserve biodiversity, protect geological heritage, document archaeological values and preserve local culture and traditions associated with the Nakawan Range.

He added that the festival, held from May 30 until today, also served as an important platform to raise public awareness about the importance of forests and to encourage greater community involvement in forest conservation and sustainable management efforts.

“The success of conservation initiatives depends not only on government agencies but also on the active participation and commitment of the wider community,” he said.
