KANGAR, June 10 (Bernama) -- Mastery of knowledge, the application of effective pedagogy, and a culture of knowledge-sharing and digital skills must continue to be strengthened to ensure the country’s education system remains dynamic, relevant and competitive in the face of changing times.
The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail said at the same time, due attention must also be given to enhancing the students’ overall achievement, encompassing knowledge, skills and cultivation of karamah insaniah (noble human values).
His Royal Highness said education is not merely about pursuing academic excellence, but a platform to nurture well-rounded individuals who are courteous, knowledgeable, resilient, skilled and confident, as envisioned in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2026-2035.
“Fill the minds of the young generation with beneficial knowledge, and adorn their character with noble virtues so that they can shape a bright future,” he said when officiating the new Perlis Education Department building here today.
Also in attendance were the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Also present was Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
In addition, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said literacy and numeracy issues must continue to be addressed in a focused manner to ensure every student masters basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills from primary school.
Meanwhile, the Raja of Perlis said the new state Education Department building is not only a new landmark for Perlis, but will also serve as a centre of excellence in knowledge, which strengthens efforts to produce a generation that is knowledgeable, skilled and possesses first-class thinking.
“I am confident that with these well-equipped and modern facilities, it will become an important platform in strengthening education management, enhancing teachers’ professionalism and boosting student excellence,” he said.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also expressed hope that the Perlis Education Department and all educational institutions would continue to strengthen collaboration networks with strategic partners from the government, private sector, higher education institutions and the community.
“The synergy forged will open up more opportunities for the sharing of expertise, innovation and prospects that can enhance the quality of education in the state,” he said.
At the ceremony, the Raja of Perlis also presented the 2026 Perlis Teacher of the Year award to Mustaffa Ibrahim and the 2026 Educational Leadership Award to Izmi Ismail.
