PUTRAJAYA, June 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) have renewed their commitment to deepen cooperation in animal health, veterinary services, disease surveillance and outbreak response.

Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin conveyed this during a courtesy visit from WOAH director general Dr. Emmanuelle Soubeyran yesterday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM).

Chan expressed Malaysia's appreciation for WOAH's continued support in strengthening the country's veterinary capacity, promoting transparent disease reporting and advancing international animal health standards.

The discussion also touched on Malaysia's ongoing efforts to strengthen the One Health approach across animal health, public health, wildlife, aquatic animal health and the environment.

"We also exchanged views on the WOAH Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Pathway, which remains a key instrument in driving continuous improvement for Malaysia's Veterinary Services," the statement read.

Chan also updated WOAH on key national initiatives, including the National Bridging Workshop Roadmap, the Malaysian Rabies Elimination Strategy, and strengthening resilience against transboundary animal diseases and rising zoonotic threats, KPKM said.

The courtesy visit reflects WOAH's recognition of Malaysia's commitment to building a more integrated, resilient animal health system ready for future challenges, the ministry added.

"This reinforces the shared commitment between Malaysia and WOAH to be better prepared for animal health threats and zoonotic diseases," the statement concluded.
