WASHINGTON, June 13 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Canada announced US$100 million on Friday in additional humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
The funding, announced by Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Paris, will be delivered through UN agencies, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and non-governmental organisations providing assistance on the ground.
Anand made the announcement at the Paris Call for the Two-State Solution conference, where leaders gathered to discuss challenges in achieving a future two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The new contribution brings Canada's total assistance for Palestinians to more than US$500 million, according to a statement from Global Affairs Canada.
The funding will support emergency medical care, food, nutrition, water, sanitation, shelter and protection services for civilians affected by Israel's genocidal war against Gaza and deteriorating conditions in the West Bank, it said.
The announcement came one day after the UK, Australia and Canada announced the creation of a new International Peace Fund to support efforts towards a two-state solution.
The UK, Australia and Canada will each provide initial seed funding of £1 million (US$1.3 million) over three years. The fund will also be open to contributions from other international partners.
